Levamlodipine besylate is a medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It is primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain). The drug works by relaxing the blood vessels, which helps to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.
Mechanism of Action
Levamlodipine besylate exerts its effects by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessel walls. This action leads to the relaxation of the vascular smooth muscles, resulting in vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels), which reduces peripheral resistance and lowers blood pressure. By improving blood flow to the heart, it can also alleviate symptoms of angina pectoris.
Indications
It is commonly prescribed for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (chest pain). In some cases, it may also be used off-label for other cardiovascular conditions under close medical supervision.
